General Information

The person I bought 0739 from purchased it on June 22, 1987 and maintained full documentation during the period of time that he owned the car. The odometer showed 55,193 miles at the time he purchased it and it showed 69,321 miles when I bought it from him in July, 2005. There are registration slips of a previous owner dating back to 1984, but no other records before 1987. It's not certain that the mileage showing on the odometer is correct, but it is known that the owner previous to me put 14,128 miles on the car in the 18 years that he owned it.

The previous owner advised me that he had never driven the car in the winter or in inclement weather, and he says that the original owner told him the same thing. It's easy to believe because the car appears to be rust-free (at least I haven't found any yet). There are no signs of collision damage and repair.

Summary

There were fewer than 1,000 Targas produced in 1972 (989 total) and #739 is a nice example. It's straight, dry and unmolested. With 73,000 original miles (driven less than 15,000 miles since a cosmetic and mechanical restoration in 1990 by top-level Porsche professionals), it retains the "Porsche Feel" and gives me a sense of what Porsche was striving for when they made these incredible cars.
